For 12 straight hours viewers like you called and donated more than $1,010,131 to the Variety Kids Telethon, which aired Sunday night on 7ABC.

“This is critically important for all of our community,” Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown told 7 Eyewitness News. “To make sure that our children are healthy and when our children do have health issues making sure that they have the facilities to get them the treatment that they need.”

The money donated goes to help children in Western New York, children like the 2016 celebrity child 6-year-old Ashton Ross Smith. At just six weeks old Ross battled a severe respiratory infection and pneumonia.

Throughout the telethon we heard the stories of other children who, years after battling serious health conditions, are now thriving because of the care they received at Women and Children’s Hospital.
