City of Tonawanda Police responded to the scene of a boat fire in the Niagara River off Niawanda Park on Wednesday evening.

Police say a father and son from the Town of Tonawanda got off the boat safely. They went into the water and were picked up by a private boat and taken to Tonawanda Island.

It happened around 6:30 p.m.

Police report they were not injured.

First responders say the boat burned down to the water line.

There is no cause of the fire at this time.
