Boston State Road is back open, Monday morning, between Herman Hill Road to Thornwood Drive.
Fire started in a junk yard, behind what appears to be an auto repair shop. The fire was reported before 1:00 a.m. Monday.
Crews at the scene spent about five hours trying to get the fire extinguished.
"The fire is several hundred feet off the roadway, so just getting back there in general is a bit of a chore," Chief Thomas Ricotta said. "We'll be doing a lot more work here shortly, once we get the fire spread down into smaller piles, we'll get to work with hand tools."
The owner of the junk yard was on scene, breaking up the large pile with an excavator. Firefighters needed the owner to dig trenches to fight the fire.
No word on how the fire started.
The Erie County Sheriff's fire investigator is working to determine a cause and source.
The road was back open around 5:45 a.m.
