Buffalo high school ranked best in Upstate New York, 17th in state

Posted

City Honors School in Buffalo has been named the top performing public high school in all of Upstate New York, according to new rankings from U.S. News and World Report.

The school was ranked 17th in the entire state and was outperformed by 13 New York City Public Schools, two schools in Westchester County and one school on Long Island.

The 2018 high school rankings were just released by the publication. It looked at more than 20,500 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. City Honors came in 103rd in national rankings.

To determine the rankings, U.S. News and World Report teamed with RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm based in North Carolina.

Performance was based on whether students at each school were performing better than expected of other students in the state, whether historically underserved students (black, Hispanic and low-income) performed better than expected of the same populations state-wide, the school's graduation rate and college-readiness performance.
