Elderly woman found dead in Dunkirk house fire

An elderly woman was found dead inside a Dunkirk residence after a fire Friday afternoon.

The Dunkirk Fire Department says firefighters were called to a building on Crooked Brook Drive around 2:30 p.m. A resident there told them there was someone inside with burns.

Upon entering the house, firefighters found a deceased elderly woman and a small fire in the living space. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire and fatality are under investigation.

Authorities are not revealing the name of the deceased woman until her family is notified.
