It's actually really simple.
On a desktop or laptop computer, go to http://www.speedtest.net, and click the "Begin Test" button. That's it -- after a few seconds, the site should give you your results.
You can also download the Speedtest app on your phone to test the speed from your phone.
As a note, speeds on WiFi are usually a little bit slower than speeds on a 'hardline' connection.
