BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Fire crews responded to a tragic and deadly scene at a home in Buffalo Tuesday morning.
According to investigators, flames erupted at a home in the 400-block of Minnesota Avenue around 6:45am. Inside the home were a mother, her 13-year-old daughter, her 31-year-old son and a 65-year-old female cousin. Investigators say the mother and daughter were able to jump to safety from a second-floor window, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. Firefighters pulled the 65-year-old cousin from the home, she was rushed to ECMC where she died from her injuries. Fire crews found the 31-year-old son inside the home, he was pronounced dead at the scene. No names have been released at this point.
Investigators say the home did have a working smoke detector, but the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Damage to the home is estimated at $150,000, a neighboring vacant home sustained $100,000 in exposure damage.
