BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Police Department announced the investigation into the death of a prisoner at Central Booking on West Eagle Street Sunday.

According to police, paramedics were called just before 9 a.m. to assist a prisoner to the hospital after the prisoner had a "medical issue" while inside a jail cell. The 42-year-old Buffalo male, identified Monday as Timothy Budek, was pronounced dead at the scene.

BPD homicide detectives and the Internal Affairs Division are investigating the incident.

As part of protocol New York State Department of Corrections has been notified.

Police say an autopsy will be performed by Erie County medical examiners to determine the cause of death.
