CLARENCE, N.Y. (WKBW) — A fire that started inside a family's garage and spread into their home has caused $225,000 damage.
The fire started in a vehicle inside an attached garage on Red Clover Avenue around 12:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve and spread into the family's home. The East Amherst Fire Department responded, with help from Swormville, Clarence Center and Main Transit firefighters.

Within 30 minutes, firefighters were able to get the fire under control. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
The Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office reports the fire cuased about $150,000 damage to the house, and another $75,000 damage to the contents inside the house.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The fire alarm office reports the fire is believed to have started "due to mechanical failure in the vehicle."
