ALLEGANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — Multiple fire crews were dispatched Tuesday morning to battle an oil derrick fire in the Southern Tier.
Officials say the fire started just after 5:30 near Flatstone Road and Chipmonk Road.
The fire was extinguished by 10:30 a.m.
About 150 gallons of oil were spilled. The spill was contained and is not a threat to major water supplies in the area, according to emergency management crews.
Deputies said the DEC was been notified and a hazmat crew responded. The DEC remains on the scene.
The well is owned by Vertical Energy.
