One hospitalized, eight displaced following Amherst fire

AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — Several fire companies responded to 4285 Chestnut Ridge Road in Amherst around 5:30 Friday evening for the report of an apartment fire.

Upon arrival firefighters reported heavy fire coming from a first floor apartment. The fire extended into the basement and an apartment above as well.

Officials say the heavy fire caused a hole in the first floor of the apartment of origin.

One person was transported to ECMC for treatment, two others were evaluated by Twin City Ambulance at the scene.

Seven adults and one child were displaced and will be assisted by the Red Cross.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
