A fire at Primitives & Produce at "The Farm", a country store on Rt. 77 in Corfu, is a total loss after a massive fire Thursday morning.
The fire appeared to have started in a chicken coop, which was located two-feet away from the barn that housed the store. Fire investigators say a heat lamp may have sparked the blaze, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The barn, which housed the country store, was also used to store hay. It quickly went up in flames. Twenty chickens died in the fire and the antique shop was destroyed.
The store sold homemade wooden primitive items, in-season produce, country collectibles, candles, potpourri tarts and much more. The owner posted a message to the store's Facebook page, saying they can rebuild.
"My whole store. My whole world gone in secs. Please pray for me and my family."
The two-alarm blaze brought 12 fire companies to the scene. Their biggest challenge was finding manpower to fight the intense flames. Corfu is an all-volunteer company and many firefighters were already at work or on their way to work.
