One horse died and two others had to be rescued after a barn collapsed on Pleasant Avenue in Lake View Thursday.

It happened around 8 p.m. Ranger, a horse that once worked for the sheriff’s office, died. Two other horses were pinned. One was freed from underneath a beam and is resting but having trouble standing. Bella was pinned but volunteers worked to clear rubble and debris and free her.

Bella was able to be rescued from the wreckage and volunteers continue to work with the other horse to try to get him to stand.

The owner of the horses is eight months pregant and is grateful to everyone who came out to help her, including Nick Costa Construction, which brought in heavy equipment, and Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company.

Her other barn houses two horses and three ponies. Volunteers are working to clear the snow off the roof to prevent another collapse.
