San Diego twin babies born in different years

A pair of San Diego twins were born over New Year's Eve, but they share an entirely different birthday.

Jaelyn Valenica was born at 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2015, and her twin brother Luis Valencia Jr. was born 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2016.

“It was around midnight and she was just popping out, it was crazy seeing her little head pop out first,” said father, Luis Valencia.

He said though they’re born just two minutes apart, they now have a very unique birthday story to tell.

“I was not really expecting two, so it's a big blessing to have two of them, boy and a girl for New Years,” said Valencia.

He said his wife was expecting to give birth at the end of January, but the doctor’s called them into the San Diego Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center Thursday afternoon.

He said his wife had complications and they had to deliver the twins as soon as possible.

“Junior was breeched,” said Valencia.

But after several hours of labor, Luis’ wife gave birth to the two healthy babies – a perfect ending to 2015 and a perfect start to the new year.
