Man charged with second degree murder after shooting his father

Cheektowaga Police are investigating a homicide that happened Monday night.

Police say they were called to a home at 212 Whitney Place just before midnight.

The Cheektowaga Chronicle says the man who called 911 said he accidentally shot his father.

According to Assistant Chief James Speyer, William Hardy, 54, died from a gunshot wound after he was shot by his son, SirWilliam Hardy, 31.

Police arrested SirWilliam Hardy and charged him with one count of second degree murder.

The younger Hardy was taken away by ambulance and is wheelchair bound, police told the Cheektowaga news outlet.

The Cheektowaga Chronicle says the Detective Bureau and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit were at the scene collecting evidence.

The investigation is ongoing.

Hardy is beig held at the Erie County Holding Center without bail until his felony hearing on Thursday.
