As we well know, the Buffalo Bills haven't seen the playoffs in 16 seasons. It's the longest drought going in the National Football League, and one that is constantly on the minds of fans with the lingering question, "When will it end?"
Fans aren't the only ones thinking it. Even one of the greatest quarterbacks in the franchise's history feels that way. Except, for someone that's quite a bit closer to the organization than most, that's what made his most recent comments as glaring as they were.
To Jim Kelly, it's pretty simple: Make the playoffs this year, or another changing of the guard could be happening at One Bills Drive. And that's exactly what he told The Jim Rome Show of CBS Sports Radio:
"I think we need to do it. I think we have to do it," Kelly started. "If we don't, I think Rex [Ryan] is probably looking for another job, too. I think everybody knows that, including Rex."
Kelly cited the talent that exists on the roster, and stressed the importance of staying healthy and off of the injury reports.
"We've got a heck of a football team, but you can't win if you're not on the football field competing and playing," Kelly said. "I just hope we stay healthy, because if we do, and we don't make it, there's no excuses whatsoever."
This quote came shortly after Rex's thoughts on that exact topic, when he said the complete opposite to Jenny Vrentas of The MMQB:
"The media looks at it [like], 'Well, we have to win this year,'" Ryan said. "Or what? Oh, I am going to be fired? I don't think so. I'm not going to worry about it, because we are going to win anyway. But it's like, that is an ultimatum. No."
So, what do you think? Should Rex Ryan be fired if the Bills don't make the playoffs in 2016? Vote below:
