EDMONTON, Alberta (WKBW) — One of the Buffalo Sabres 2019 first round picks has made the 2021 World Junior Championship team for the United States.
Defenseman Ryan Johnson who was drafted 31st overall by the Sabres joins six other American 2019 first round picks for this year's tournament which takes place in Edmonton, Alberta.
Johnson, 19, was born in Irvine, Calif. and plays for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.
The Sabres acquired the draft pick they used to take Johnson in the Ryan O'Reilly trade.
The Sabres two other most recent first round picks, Dylan Cozens (2019 draft) and Jack Quinn (2020 draft) made the team Canada roster.
