BUFFALO, N.Y. [WKBW] — After exploding for six goals on Monday evening, the Buffalo Sabres couldn't beat Flyers goaltender Brian Elliott on Tuesday, falling to Philadelphia 3-0.
Observations from Tuesday's game:
Trending in the right direction
Despite the result, the Sabres put together a pretty solid effort. For the majority of the game, the Sabres controlled play and out-chanced the Flyers. Sure, a strong effort doesn't appear in the win column but it was still another step in the right direction against a solid opponent. More often than not you'll win games when you play as the Sabres did on Tuesday night.
Figuring out what's going on in net
We still haven't received any clarity on the situation with Linus Ullmark, who missed Monday's game for personal reasons. This propelled Carter Hutton into the starting role on both nights and for the most part, he looked strong. But he was replaced after 40 minutes by Jonas Johansson, who played the remainder of the game.
Snakebitten Skinner
Jeff Skinner can't buy a goal right now. He's generating tons of chances and playing really well, he just can't seem to find the back of the net. He's hardly alone, Jack Eichel has been held scoreless in four games, but it feels like the chances are piling up for Skinner. Eventually, he'll get his first one and it will probably lead to a whole bunch more, it's just strange watching Skinner miss on chances we're used to seeing him finish.
