With the Buffalo Sabres off for a few days a quick trip down I-90 to see the Rochester Americans made a whole lot of sense. While the Sabres have struggled, their farm team has been one of the hottest teams in the AHL.

Their roster is a mixed bag, made up of young prospects like Brendan Guhle and Alex Nylander along with seasoned veterans that include Nathan Paetsch and Kevin Porter. In a rare Monday matinee, the Amerks looked sluggish, falling to the Utica Comets 2-1 in a shootout. Linus Ullmark was stellar yet again, turning away 40 of the 41 shots he faced while Seth Griffith scored the lone Amerks' goal.
After the game, we chatted with 13 WHAM Sports Director Mike Catalana about the state of the Amerks, discussing Nylander, Ullmark, Guhle and whether or not this team is the real deal.
