Playing in the NHL Winter Classic is a once in a lifetime opportunity and the Buffalo Sabres realize that.

On Monday things didn’t go their way, falling to the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime. After the game, players were visibly dejected and upset after a hard fought loss, but realize they’ll remember this game for the rest of their lives.

Jack Eichel, who played in first outdoor game, told reporters that you can never know if you’ll get to play in another Winter Classic.

Robin Lehner, who was the second star of the game, echoed those comments and said it was a near perfect weekend, aside from the late loss.

Jason Pominville, the only player in today’s game who played in the first Winter Classic in 2008, said it was great to be back outside.
