Everyone inside American Airlines Center knew the Buffalo Sabres were taking Rasmus Dahlin with the No. 1 pick. At 7:48 p.m. it became official when Jason Botterill called Dahlin's name.
"I was kind of nervous" Dahlin said with a smile. "It was amazing when I heard my name."
For months, Dahlin has been asked questions about playing for the Sabres but always played it cool, never acting like his landing spot was a foregone conclusion. On Friday he said it's nice to finally be able to start thinking about what's next.
"It's been a long wait and you can't really plan anything but finally today I can plan my future and I love to call my new town Buffalo."
Dahlin won't have to wait long for his third trip to Buffalo. On Wednesday the Sabres begin development camp, where Dahlin will be the main attraction.
Undoubtedly, Dahlin will be the center of attention for years to come. While he tries to block out the noise, he knows there is pressure but says he'll leave it all on the ice.
"Only thing I can do is to bring all I can to that team to win hockey games and I'm super excited to do that."
