Sabres' Nylander trying to get better every day

Buffalo Sabres training camp opens next week but before camp the Blue & Gold prospects hit the ice at HARBORCENTER for their first Prospects Challenge practice.

One player Sabres fans will surely be watching is 2016 first round pick Alex Nylander. The 18-year-old signed an entry level deal with the Sabres in the offseason, but where he’ll play next month is still up in the air.

“I’ve just been focusing on having a really good camp here,” Nylander said. “I’m just doing my best here and they’ll see where I can play.”

The Sabres will have a tough decision to make with Nylander. They could send him back to juniors, he could play in the AHL with the Rochester Americans or he could flat out make the Sabres roster.

“I know If I give it my all I’ll get rewarded in the end of it,” Nylander added. “(Just have to) focus every time I go on the ice and try to get better every day.”

Nylander says he hasn’t been focusing on where he’ll end up next month but regardless, he’s excited to be apart of the Sabres future.

“It looks great,” he said.  (Jack) Eichel and (Sam) Reinhart are great players. I see them up in the video room and watch what they do and you see how good they are and how they see the ice and everything so it looks like a really good future ahead of us.”

Fans can get a glimpse of Nylander first hand this weekend. The Sabres play the Devils Saturday night and the Bruins Monday night (both games at HARBORCENTER, 7 pm) as part of the Sabres Prospects Challenge.
