The Sabres selected Cozens in the first round as the seventh overall pick. He finished last season tied for 10th among all WHL skaters in points. He also ranked in the top 10 in even-strength assists and even-strength points.
Cozens took part in Sabres Development Camp in late June but wound up hurting his thumb. He later had surgery and will be sidelined for a few months.
