It's a bold move to kick off NHL Draft week in Buffalo, and now the Sabres have an opportunity to have the past two Hobey Baker Award winners on their team in 2016.
Known for his bold trades during last year's deadline and again before the Draft, General Manager Tim Murray was working the phones again on Monday, this time trading their 3rd round pick to Nashville in exchange for the right to sign prized college prospect Jimmy Vesey.
"Why not us? Why not give it a shot?" Murray told TSN's Bob McKenzie. "We have a spot in our Top 6 for him. We had four 3rd-round picks."

More Tim Murray: "If I could've traded (rental) Jamie McGinn for Vesey's rights at deadline, I'd have done it. We'll give it our best shot."

Murray spoke to Vesey's agent Peter Fish to inform him of trade. Fish also reps Sabre Jack Eichel. Sabres/Pegula/Murray will make a pitch.

The Sabres have until August 15 to sign Vesey before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
This past season at Harvard, Vesey powered the Crimson to the NCAA Tournament with 24 goals and 22 assists, but was eliminated in the first round with a 4-1 loss to Boston College.
