Catholic Charities kicked off their annual appeal a couple of days ago. The theme is hope. Deacon Steve Schumer, president & CEO Catholic Charities of Buffalo says they are so grateful for the generosity of Western New Yorkers to support them last year to help our neighbors and this year the need continues to be very great. Their goal is ten million dollars. Last year they made it to 8.4 million dollars which was short of the goal of ten million dollars, but they still considered it a tremendous success.
Catholic Charities provides services to everybody regardless of faith or background. Last year they served 149,000 people. They have nine food pantries around WNY. They do a lot of mental health and behavioral counseling, and counselling with troubled youth. Decan Steve says they also do a lot of workforce education; so, people trying to get their high school equivalency so they can get a job and the list goes on and on. He goes on to say the big push they are doing is to get the word out in the community that they are here to help so please call them. Deacon Steve says they are there to help; they are there to offer hope.
