Right now everything is different and you may be feeling isolated. The Erie County Seniors Services have some great resources for you online. Also if you want to make the most of your time they University Express. Mel Camp talks with David Shenk, commissioner of Erie County Senior Services. He says they wanted to develop a combat social isolation web page and they have a lot of things on there for people to do. Previously, a lot of their programs were at the senior centers and the community centers. They were group activities like nutrition, education and wellness. The aging merry program which helps seniors transition from retirement and all the new decisions they have to make going forward. What are the Erie County Senior Services has done is put a lot of these program on video and they’ve been loaded onto the county’s web page.
There is so much you can do and one of their really popular programs is the university express program. It is patterned after the adult education program. It is a collaboration with not only with Erie County Senior Services but, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of WNY, Excelsior Orthopedics and Wegmans. Normally they have multiple locations across the county. They have 80 different instructors and they are getting a lot of those instructors to make videos and are putting them on their new university express web page.
