This is apple picking season and Mel is at Baker Farms with Kelly Springer from the New York Apple Association. Kelly Springer, registered dietician says she cannot say enough good things about apples. They are a good source of fiber which is good for our digestion and good for overall health. They are also a good source of vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants.

Kelly says New York State is one of the largest apple growers, which a lot of people don’t know. There are over 150 you pick apple orchards. If you go to their website you can find an orchard that is right by you.

There are over 55, 000 acres of apple orchards. She says we are lucky to live here and have this right at our fingertips. Apples are so versatile. You can use them in so many different ways. You can dice them up, use them in smoothies; you can slice them up and use them in sandwiches and salads. Kelly Springers says there is even a recipe on the website for apples wrapped in bacon. Apples can be super savory or sweet. When you are at the website you can check out the many ways to use apples.
