It has been an extraordinary year for our students and educators. Friends for a Better Buffalo want to make sure those going above and beyond are being recognized. Nina Heard, from Friends for a Better Buffalo says as we all know teachers, principals, support staff, whether it is a nurse or resource officer they can inspire educate and motivate us to do great things.

They are now accepting nominations for the 2nd Annual Excellence in Education Awards. Heard says they are really looking for those individuals in the community to nominate those who are making difference in our children’s lives. Nominations must be for a current teacher, working at a Buffalo, public, private or charter school. The deadline for nominations if February 28th. The awards show is May 2nd. It will be a virtual event.

Nominations can be submitted on the Friends for a Better Buffalo website. There is also a link on the Excellence in Education Awards Facebook page. Also on their Facebook page will be a daily salute to retired educators.

Terrance Heard says year after year we see our teachers retire, the administrative staff retire but they never get recognized for the work they do inside our schools, inside the building with our children so the Friends for Greater Buffalo came together and put this award show together to recognize these teachers finally and give them credit for the work they do in our classroom.

They plan to do the same for Women’s History Month in March. They are going to spotlight the talented individuals molded by these amazing educators in a Buffalo Sings competition. The winner of this online competition will be able to showcase their skills on May 2nd and get the opportunity to be the opening act for 2021.
