Mel is in the parking lot of Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital talking the 97 Rock’s Jickster. This is the location for this year’s Operation Rock Out Hunger food drive.

Jickster tells us Operation Rock Out Hunger has been going on for 15 years and he lives in the truck where the donations come to. He says they are just trying to draw attention that people need help and him living in the truck draws attention to that and it draws attention to what FeedMore WNY does. He adds it’s been a great 15 years and the totals have been great but every year they need more and with the pandemic they need so much help.

Anne McKenna, chief communications officer for FeedMore WNY says 1 in 6 Western New Yorkers suffers from food insecurity and especially this year with the pandemic and everything that is going on. So many people are out of work or they are under-employed. She says the work they do is so important right now. She says they are very excited to be here at Rock Out Hunger and see all the people bringing donations and helping to support the work that they do.

You can bring perishable or non-perishable foods or cash donations. They have volunteers there, all or them wearing masks, so if you want you can drive up, pop your trunk and they will take the donations out of your vehicle so you don’t even have to get out of your car. You can also make a donation online.
