Barbara Lockwood a volunteer for FeedMore WNY is celebrating 45 years of volunteering for FeedMore WNY as a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She stays it’s a good feeling to know you can do something and make your life count. Tomorrow we are all going to be able to do something. July 7 on Channel 7 is our Buffalo Strong Day of Giving to support FeedMore WNY. Catherine Schick, communications director of FeedMore WNY says when the pandemic hit our region in New York, they began to see thousands of individuals reaching out to them, many for the first time. She says they couldn’t do it without Western New Yorkers donating, food, funds and their time through volunteerism. A special 7-7 Day of Giving in honor of FeedMore WNY feeding more of Western New York.
Over the course of just one week in June, FeedMore WNY distributed more than 30,000 home delivered meals. As lockdowns lift, demand for the support in the community is expected to continue. The need for food and security is not going away anytime soon. Catherine Schick says in fact, at FeedMore WNY they are seeing early reports that our region is expected to have a 44% increase in food and security rate in terms of the four county service areas that FeedMore WNY has.
