What was once a just perk for film critics, celebrities and the rare special event is now an experience available to pretty much anyone. For $250 and the urge to get out of the house you can have a private movie screening at the North Park Theatre on Hertel Avenue.
Ray Barker, North Park Theatre program director says it has been incredible. They are sold out for February dates already and on well their way to selling through their March block as well. He says it has been received with great enthusiasm. It is just you and your family to use the time however you want. Barkers says some people are celebrating birthday, or anniversaries or the first date movie they ever went on.
The first step is to choose your date and time. Once you have done that you will receive an email from Barker and you will work out the content and what you want to do with your time. The next step is to choose a movie. He says not every commercial movie is available but most of them are. Some people want to see movies they created; aspiring filmmakers who want to show their work to family and friends. If you want concessions that is ordered ahead of time and the staff will have it ready for you when you enter to keep interactions at a minimum.
Emily Lampa says from the second you walk in the door this is not your regular movie experience. She says it’s like stepping back in time. This past November the North Park Theatre celebrated their 100th anniversary.
