The new year brings new motivation and new beginning, says Robbie Raw, RN and fitness expert. It’s time to get back on track with your exercise goals and we’ve got to get past those psychological barriers. Back in April or May, it was easier for a lot of us to exercise because the weather was nice and there were only the two choices: staying in the house or getting outside and exercise. Many people were out there running and biking and now we are in the dead of winter, so we need that exercise motivation to happen all over again in a different way. Robbie says the motivation to start exercising is different than the motivation to sustain exercising. So, she says, you just have to get started. Once you start it is a lot easier.
The first tip is to pick an exercise you enjoy. Whatever you enjoy to do; maybe it is cycling, or walking, or floor exercise. Whatever it, is start with that.
The second tip is: pick the best time for you to exercise. Maybe your morning person or an evening person. Pick the time that is best for you and then get rid of the barriers. If you need to get your equipment out the night before, do it so there are no stops in the morning.
Robbie Raugh reminds us…the first thing to do is just start.
