Elizabeth Carey from AAA has news about a new law. On this past November 1st a new law went into effect. You must wear a seatbelt in the back seat of a vehicle. This applies to any back seat; so, if you are in a taxi or ride share you must wear the seatbelt while riding in the back seat.
Elizabeth Carey tells us that New York State was the first state to have a seat belt law but for whatever reason it didn’t apply to people over the age of 16 in the back seat. What they saw was a lot of people being injured or even seriously injured or killed and they said something has to happen so New York State put this seat belt law into effect for the rear seat. No matter where you are sitting in a vehicle, buckle up; it is the safest way to be.
