Creativity is the making of something new and useful. Why do we use creativity? IBM surveyed more than 1,500 CEO’s across 33 industries and 60 countries. According to 60% of them, the number one attribute CEO’s look for in their incoming workforce is creativity. This is because creative people embrace change, take risks, support innovation and so much more.
How do you teach creativity at home? Jay Hall says he would start with creative thinking skills.
1. Fluency which is the ability to generate quantities of ideas.
2. Flexibility – This is your child’s ability to create different categories of ideas or perceive an idea from different points of view.
3. Originality – the ability to generate new, different and unique ideas.
4. Elaboration – the ability to expand an idea by embellishing it with details.
Jay takes these four skills and uses them to demonstrate a project he did with his daughter.
