Andrew Bennett, VP Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation says Children’s Hospitals across the country rely so significantly on their community for philanthropic support. We are so lucky to have Oishei Chidren’s Hospital here in Buffalo so families don’t need to leave to get the very best care. Much of that care is often reliant on community support like the child life team, trauma program, the neonatal intensive care, ICU. There are many programs and services, equipment included, recruitment and training that is very much impacted by community support whether that is from an individual, a business or a foundation or even an event.

The child life team is dedicated to different areas of the hospital. The child life specialist is there to help normalize the experience, reduce anxiety. When it’s appropriate have some fun whether it’s through art, music or there is a whole list of fun things the child specialist will with the patients and in some instances with their siblings and family.

We are the only pediatric level one trauma program in the region says Andrew Bennett. We’re helping the most severe situations and injuries both for kids and their neonatal intensive care unit is caring for the littlest most precious babies from across the region. Over 800 babies a year are coming to the hospital. It’s a really special place says Bennett. Much of the equipment that helps those programs be so successful we’re able to provide from donations from the community says Andrew Bennett.

Community support is going to help them be more successful working with kids from all across the region providing lifesaving treatment and care.
