and last updated

Dr. Nicole Ferguson, author of Unstoppable Joy says water plays a huge role in our overall mood. Dehydration is linked to an increase in depression, anxiety, fatigue and a loss of focus. Our bodies are made up of mostly water so it would make sense that we would need a lot of it to stay in tip top shape. She says women on average need about nine cups per day and men need about twelve. This also depends upon your body weight, level of physical activity, and any additional water you get from consuming fresh fruits or vegetables. She says don’t get into the age-old myth that dehydration only occurs in the hot summer months. Dehydration occurs all year long. It is important that you get every opportunity to grab a glass of water. You can spice it up, get a cool water bottle, some fresh fruits or even add a few slices of cucumber for a refreshing drink. Dr. Nicole Ferguson says if you are super thirsty chances are you are already dehydrated so remember to drink up and be well.
