Derek Heid is a multimedia journalist at WKBW in Buffalo, NY. He joined the 7 News team in July 2023.
Derek previously served as a multimedia journalist at WNWO in Toledo, Ohio.
He covered events such as the 2022 Ohio midterm elections, disasters, community issues, and sports.
Prior to graduating from Penn State University in 2022, he interned with SiriusXM, The Centre Daily Times newspaper, and won several awards for collegiate broadcasting and storytelling.
Derek was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When he's not in the newsroom, he can typically be found walking the local communities or cheering on his favorite sports teams.
