Customs and Border Protection or CBP, is currently in the process of hiring border agents and officers. With 360 locations nationwide, the organization offers careers in every corner of the country, but there is a pressing need along the southern border.
If you have a college degree with a GPA of at least a 3.0, you can command a starting salary around $40,000 and within a few years be making more than $70,000. In addition, paid overtime can jack up a salary by $45,000 and if you prove that you're proficient in a second language it can mean even more money in your pocket.
“This jobs especially rewarding because you’re protecting your country, you’re protecting the community," CBP Public Affairs Liaison, Aaron Bowker, said. “You’re making that decision to decide is this person okay to allow to come int the country and once you release that person there’s no take backs.”
Candidates range from college graduates to military veterans who must be prepared to work long hours, pass a written exam, medical examination, extensive drug test, polygraph interview and physical fitness test.
“It takes it’s toll, you’re away from your family, like I said, 16 hour days is a long day and you don’t know when that could come up. All of a sudden here could be an emergent need and we need to hold people and that’s a reality of the job," Bowker said.
