Hundreds of Western New York students will have the chance to learn about careers in growing construction fields this week. The non-profit Be Your Own Hero is holding the second annual Jobs in Construction Career Fair on Tuesday, March 19th at the AdPro Sports Training Center at New Era Stadium.
The job fair will connect almost 1,000 students with skilled trade professionals, and show them the opportunities available in the construction industry. The students will be from BOCES, Charter School for Applied Technologies, Alden High School, ECC and other schools. More than 50 WNY Construction leaders will be at the event. Students can speak one-on-one with professionals in skilled trades, like carpenters and electricians.
According to Be Your Own Hero, 43% of employers say the talent shortage is directly impacting productivity and retention, and the most common reason employers struggle to fill jobs is because candidates don't have the required technical competencies. The organization is working to show students and young professionals the different career options available to them.
