BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — For anyone not familiar with Dyngus Day, it follows Easter Sunday and allows for the Polish community to let loose after lent. The Broadway Market was mobbed with frantic holiday-preppers getting ready for the big weekend.
In simple terms, Dyngus Day is most like St. Patricks Day for the Polish community, with a parade and a party-fueled atmosphere.
“The men would squirt men women with squirt guns and the women would kind of tap the men with pussy willows, why? I don’t know," Charisse Callahan said, who described the fun as a way of historically courting.
Dyngus Day will also feature a healthy dose of polka music and dancing and traditional Polish cuisine.
