BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — While you're racing to finish all your holiday shopping, it's easy to get overwhelmed. That's why Buffalo-based sommelier Leo Schneemann is helping you with one (important) step for when you head to the wine store.

Sure, you could go with the same wine you've been drinking since you were in college (yes, it's time to broaden your horizons beyond that bottle with a footprint on its label), but there is so much good wine to drink, without breaking the bank.

Schneemann is suggesting three wines that he says go great for just about any Christmas occasion. Whether its for the dinner table or a holiday party, you'll wow your guests and your palate without breaking the bank.

1. 'Erse' Etna Rosso

Origin: Sicily, Italy

Leo's Take: This easy-drinking wine is perfect for sipping at a holiday party or before/after the meal. The wine is a lighter body, but Mount Etna's dark soil structure lends the wine its raspberry, cherry, red fruit flavors.

Price: approx. $20

2. Birichino zinfandel

Origin: Santa Cruz, California

Leo's Take: This particular wine shows exactly what the beautiful zinfandel grape variety can and should be. Medium bodied with dark raspberry and blackberry notes, and some spicy notes round it out. Great for pasta or red meat dishes.

Price: approx. $24

3. Chateau Maris 'Les Planels' syrah

Origin: La Liviniere, Languedoc region

Leo's Take: an often-forgotten wine region, this is 100% syrah. It's the perfect fuller-bodied dinner wine with plenty of structure, a hint of spiciness, and dark blackberry notes

Price: approx. $20

You can find these wines at wine stores across Western New York, including Paradise Wine and Premier. Eat, drink... and be merry!
