The Place-that's really it's name, has been a fixture in the Elmwood Village for as long as Jay McCarthy can remember. He says "I've known about it all my life". Jay bought The Place a few years ago-and didn't just get a neighborhood bar, he also got a piece of history.
Jay says the building "goes back to 1870. It was a carriage stop on the way out of Buffalo to the commercial district of Blackrock". Jay says The Place also did time as a speak easy in the roaring twenties.
When Jay took over he went to work renovating The Place; knocking out a wall, adding a 34 foot bar and putting up Tartan wallpaper.
The kitchen puts out dinner & lunch with homemade soups and salads-there's even a sandwich on the menu that was there in the 1940's called "Flynnies Thinnies".
Opened 7 days a week, The Place is at 229 Lexington, Buffalo, NY
