Michael Schwartz is an award-winning, Emmy nominated reporter who has been referred to as a “Swiss Army Knife” for his versatile abilities in broadcast and digital journalism.
Michael is known for his creative, engaging, and memorable live reports. Michael worked around the clock, and in the thick of the deadly 2022 Christmas blizzard in Buffalo. He kept viewers informed with live reports on 7 News Buffalo, ABC News LIVE, CNN, and many digital platforms. Michael has also reported on the aftermath of the racially motivated mass shooting at Tops in Buffalo, and continues to highlight the resiliency of the family’s forever impacted.
Michael’s reporting has taken him to Fort Myers, Florida where he reported on Hurricane Ian’s devastation in 2022 for Scripps News. Michael has also traveled to cover the Bills in Los Angeles, Boston and New Jersey to hype up Bills Mafia during WKBW’s LIVE Bills pre-game broadcast “Leading The Charge.” This is a role he loves, and also does for Bills home games with unique coverage of Bills players and fans. Michael has a passion to connect with everyone he meets.
Prior to coming to Buffalo in December of 202, Michael worked in Rochester, NY as the live morning feature reporter for 13WHAM. During that time he learned how to adapt his reporting by covering serious breaking news and a fun feature in the same morning. Michael was out in the field every day since the start of COVID-19, reporting often outside hospitals, nursing homes, and government buildings to keep viewers safe and informed with the latest headlines.
Before he was a reporter, Michael started his professional TV career on the anchor desk in Binghamton, NY at WBNG in September 2016. He served as a weeknight anchor for five nightly newscasts, and produce. He later transitioned to reporting in Binghamton, while also helping the sports department shoot minor league and college baseball, and high school football and basketball.
Michael is from Bellmore, NY on Long Island. He graduated John. F. Kennedy High School in 2012, and then Ithaca College in 2016 with Bachelor’s Degree in Television-Radio, and a Journalism minor. He covered news and sports for TV and radio since his freshman year at Ithaca’s Roy H. Park School of Communications. Michael is very close to his family and friends. His mom Mona, and father Steve, who worked at ABC News where Michael fell in love with broadcast journalism as a teen, continues to be his biggest motivators. Michael enjoys hiking, baseball, volleyball, basketball, traveling and trying new food. His favorite sports team is the New York Yankees, which is why his puppy’s name is Jeter!
