An Amity resident is facing charges after a total of 28 dogs, six cats and four horses were rescued from a home.

The SPCA Serving Allegany County president told The Evening Tribune in Hornell that the 38 animals were malnourished and living in poor conditions.

The Evening Tribune reports that the shelter is now at full capacity. A veterinarian spent hours treating the animals Friday. Numerous dogs were shaved because their fur was too matted.

The SPCA Serving Allegany County is asking for donations to help assist the animals including horse hay, horse feed, large dog collars, dry dog food and Tractor Supply gift cards.

The animal shelter is also looking for adult volunteers who have experience with dogs. You can drop off donations at the shelter between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. For more information, you can call the animal shelter at 585-593-2200.
