On Sunday, Joseph Pillittere Jr. honored the memory of his late mother with the help of The Silo Restaurant in Lewiston by hosting the 3rd Annual, "Raise a Hotdog for Joan."

Joan A. Pillittere passed away back in July 2012 at the age of 73 after a lengthy battle with cancer. For the 3rd year in a row, her son is celebrating her life by giving away her favorite food, the hotdog.

Apart from 500 free hotdogs and beverages, Joseph also offered a chance to win one of four butterfly bracelets and a diamond butterfly necklace in memory of his mother.

Stacey Sheehan, Business Development Manager for The Silo, said, "It's our pleasure to work with Joe on this. I, too, lost a parent to Cancer and think it's wonderful how he continues to celebrate his mother's spirit in this way."

"The hotdogs and beverages are completely free, I just want to bring people out to celebrate the life of a great mother. It's also an opportunity to create smiles and spread kindness," said Pillittere.

Joan was the past president of the Escarpment Belles and a member of the Lewiston Council of the Arts.

The 500 hotdogs and drinks were given away starting at 11am.
