7 Eyewitness News was awarded an Emmy in the category of Morning Newscast: Medium Market at the 61st annual New York Emmy Awards Saturday night in Manhattan.
WKBW's 6 a.m. newscast won for its coverage the morning after three tornadoes touched down in Western New York last July. The same morning newscast was also recently honored with an Excellence in Broadcasting award from the New York State Broadcasters Association for Outstanding Morning Newscast.
7 Eyewitness News received five nominations total. Two nominations were in the category of Evening Newscast: Medium Market for the station's coverage of the day the tornadoes hit, with 7 Eyewitness News at 5 p.m. and 7 Eyewitness News at 6 p.m. each receiving recognition.
I-Team Chief Investigator Charlie Specht was also nominated for his investigative report Deceitful "Doctor" Anthony Pignataro. Multimedia Journalist Jeff Rusack was nominated in the category of Video Journalist.
