Niagara County Sheriff Deputies arrested Joseph M Childs, 49 of Albion after the vehicle he was driving struck a parked vehicle, which then caused the parked vehicle to hit a home at 9209 Ridge Road, rupturing the natural gas line.
After fleeing the scene on foot, he was located a short distance from the accident and transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport for treatment of minor injuries. Houses in close proximity to the scene were evacuated as a precaution by Hartland Fire Company as NYSEG responded to the incident to handle the natural gas leak.
Childs is charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, speeding, and several other traffic infractions
No other injuries were reported as the Niagara County Sheriff Department continues to investigate the accident.
