Police in Albany County have charged the 19-year-old caretaker of a 5-year-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert on Thursday with murder.
Tiffany Van Alstyne, the sister of the boy's mother, was watching Kenneth White and his siblings on Thursday. She called police around 1:30 p.m. and told police that two men wearing black ski masks entered a house in the neighboring town of Berne, pinned her to the floor and took White.
An Amber Alert was issued but canceled around 3 a.m. Friday when Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple reported White's body had been found by a sheriff's dog during a search in the rural hamlet of Clarksville, 10 miles southwest of Albany.
Police say the little boy was strangled inside the home. His body was taken a short distance from the home, thrown over a guardrail "like a piece of trash" into a culvert and deliberately covered in snow.
Van Alstyne is now charged with murder.
VanAlstyne's parents have been the legal guardians of Kenneth, his twin sister and a 4-year-old sister since September.
Police did not release any information regarding a possible motive.
