Lewiston Police had quite the character in the back seat of a police car Wednesday. No, it wasn't a criminal - it was a baby deer.
Police were called because the fawn was in the road on Lewiston Road near Niagara University. Patrol officers were able to get the deer into the back of the car, and gave it a "courtesy transport" to a safer area down the road.
It is important to note, however, police only moved this deer because it was in danger. Wildlife experts say if you see a baby deer by itself you should leave it alone. Often mothers will leave their babies for some time while they go eat, and return to them after.
