The nun who was critically injured in a fire at her apartment last week has passed away.
Buffalo's Catholic Diocese confirmed Thursday morning 81-year-old Sister Ruth Marie Penska died Wednesday at ECMC. She had been listed in serious condition since the fire.
"We are grateful for the concern the community has shown for Sister Ruth Penksa and for all the prayers. In her final days at ECMC, her family and members of the religious community were able to be at her side," said Sr. Sheila Stone, who was a member of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart along with Sister Ruth.
Sister Ruth was very active in her community, the pro-life movement, and involved in several churches.
